Did you know that men are generally paid more than women? The current national pay gap between men and women is 16.2% according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics' Average Weekly Full-Time Earnings data. For example, in May 2016 the average male Weekly Full-Time Total Earnings was $1,680, whereas females were only paid $1,327. This is a 23% difference between the two amounts.

There are many factors that affect the gender pay gap. For example, women leaving work for a period of time on maternity leave forces their employer to hire another person to fill their place for a certain amount of time.
